Practical Solutions to Machinery and Maintenance Vibration Problems

Course Objective:

To provide a comprehensive, practical understanding of vibration analysis as a tool for quickly identifying and correcting the root causes of machinery problems, achieving precise tolerances, and improving machinery performance beyond what is expected for new machines.

Video training is a proven training tool to train large groups of people when “live” classroom sessions may not be feasible. This course, based on our popular Practical Solutions Seminar Series, is an excellent resource for training personnel new to the area of vibration. It is also an indispensable resource for experienced staff when analyzing or troubleshooting machinery problems.

Through video, the pace and content of the instruction can be tailored to fit into your schedules while meeting the need of a variety of groups, including:

  • Engineers and Vibration Specialists
  • Craftsmen, Mechanics, Technicians, and other Non-Specialists
  • Supervisors and Maintenance Planners
  • Analysts and Managers

Module 1

Understanding, Prevention, and Correction of Resonance in Machine Parts and Structural Supports.

Module Time: 4 hours, 58.9 minutes

For a fair percentage of plant machinery, resonance of one part or another is present to magnify vibration levels, resulting in drastically decreased machine life. The viewer will understand, analyze, and correct resonance in machine parts, structural members, pipes, and more.

Tapes include:

  • Understanding and Working with Resonance Parts 1 & 2
  • Proving Resonance by Various Means Parts 1, 2, & 3
  • Determining When to Work on the Support Structure or the Vibration Source
  • Resonance Case Histories
  • Vibrations Due to Machinery Soft Feet

Module Price: $1,525.00

Module 2

Separating the Symptoms of Rotor Unbalance and Shaft/Coupling Misalignment

Module Time: 2 hours 40.3 minutes

Although the ultimate vibration may, for example, occur at gearmesh frequency or shaft rub, over 90 percent of all vibration problems originate with either unbalance or misalignment. This module clearly distinguishes between these two sources. The viewer will use several means besides analysis of spectral data, such as motion analysis of the machine rotors using practical and easy to understand vibration phase as well as good practical reasoning.

Tapes include:

  • Unbalance vs. Misalignment Symptoms Parts 1, 2, & 3
  • Understanding and Interpreting Harmonics through Spectrum Analysis
  • Evaluating Lower Harmonics for Misalignment
  • Effects of Electrical Hum on Spectrum Analysis

Module Price: $735.00

Module 3

Unbalance Due to Inadequate Tolerances and Assembly Errors

Module Time: 2 hours, 22.40 minutes

This module clearly shows why unbalance still causes problems and premature machine downtime, even when rotors were shop-balanced to international standards. It not only demonstrates much closer and readily attainable precision balancing, but more than that—how to preserve that close balance with careful assembly considerations. Implementing this section of the course will have an immediate effect on increasing machinery running life.

Tapes include:

  • Considerations Regarding Vibration and Unbalance Tolerances
  • Unbalance Due to Assembly Errors Parts 1, 2, & 3
  • Considerations for Balancing RPM

Module Price: $700.00

Module 4

Obtaining Good Data of Amplitude, Frequency, and Phase

Module Time: 2 hours, 8.38 minutes

If the data is inaccurate, the most perceptive reasoning and analysis will still provide erroneous conclusions. This section doesn't spend much time with the type of details provided by vibration instrument suppliers, but instead time is spent on what is too often left out. In addition to the amplitude and frequency data, several very practical means are given to obtain the good phase data that is needed for the most accurate vibration analysis.

Tapes include:

  • Introduction and Quick View of Vibration Sources
  • Various Means and Precautions for Obtaining Phase
  • Pickup Placement for Vibration Monitoring and Analysis
  • Basic Understanding of Periodic Monitoring

Module Price: $660.00

Module 5

Miscellaneous Vibration Topics
Module Time: 6 hours, 10.4 minutes

Once the preliminary subjects of unbalance, assembly errors, misalignment, spectral analysis are learned, it's considerably easier to learn other vibration-related topics that often occur in all plants. Although these types of vibrations occur less often, when they do they are difficult to analyze and correct unless a practical, easy to follow approach is used.

Tapes include:

  • Vibration Due to Beats Parts 1 & 2
  • Rolling Element Bearing Vibrations Parts 1 & 2
  • Vibration Due to Cavitation
  • Considerations for Low Frequency Vibration
  • Understanding Gear Vibrations
  • Case Histories on Gear Vibration
  • Pulley, Belt, and Sheave Vibration
  • Approach to Solving a Vibration Problem Parts 1 & 2
  • Why Phase & Amplitude Symptoms are not Always Clear Part 1 & 2

Module Price: $1,880.00

“The instructional quality of the vibration video course is excellent. Material covers all aspects of vibration analysis in a very easy to understand, detailed, and logical manner. Whether the audience consisted of beginners or advanced analysts, everyone will gain by watching the tapes.”
